“Tsiknopempti” is celebrated during the Greek Carnival Season, Apokries. It is roughly translated as Smokey Thursday or Charred Thursday and involves the grilling and roasting of vast amounts of Greek meat!
It is also a day of great importance as it also signifies the start of the last week before the 40-day-long fasting before the Orthodox Easter which starts on ‘Clean’ Monday.
